Another source "Devon notes and queries" gives the arms as
'per chevron gules and sable a chevron between three swans argent'
There is another coat of arms, very similar but described as a chevron between three silver rising swans on a red shield belong to the Lyte family (granted in c.1546) see website
These arms can be seen at Lytes Cary manor in Somerset
