Maria Mitchell

Maria was born in 1818 on the US island of Nantucket of William and Lydia Mitchell.
She was taught astromony at a young age by her father.
Both sides of her family were quakers.
She was the first American female to discover a comet.
She received a gold medal from the King of Denmark.
Maria Mitchell died 28 June 1889
