Agnes married James Bevan, who is described as a commercial traveller on the marriage certificate, when she was about six months pregnant. James had been a shop assistant in a village grocery in 1851, so Agnes could have met him then or when he was travelling, but I think there was probably a scandal, because they married in Exeter and the witnesses are not family members. They went to London, to Shoreditch, and the baby lived only a few weeks. However, James made good, and they ended up quite prosperous in a much more respectable part of London, although my great grandmother was their only surviving child. | Family: F37
